Expert Meeting on a Single Monetary Policy for ECOWAS in Abuja June 2018
The West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) convened a meeting of monetary and exchange rate policy experts on the choice of a single monetary policy framework and exchange rate regime for the prospective Ecowas monetary union in Abuja, Nigeria from 4 to 7 June 2018. The themes of the experts’ meeting; the choice of a single monetary policy framework and definition of an appropriate exchange rate regime, were among the key components of the Revised Roadmap for the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme and emphasized that the purpose of the Meeting was to continue the process of finding common ground on the choice of a single exchange rate regime and a single monetary policy framework for the region.
The Meeting brought together representatives from Central Banks of ECOWAS Member States, the ECOWAS Commission, the WAEMU Commission, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Liberia, WAMI, WAIFEM, and WAMA.
