Dr Elijah Abasifreke Paul Udoh

Director of Research and Statistic

Dr. Elijah Udoh is a seasoned economist, researcher, and policy analyst with over 25 years of experience in academia and the financial sector. He began his academic journey at the University of Calabar, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1996. He then pursued a Master’s in Economics at the University of Ibadan in 2001.  In 2003, he received an African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) scholarship to join the inaugural class of the Collaborative PhD Program (CPP) in Africa. Udoh completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Ibadan in 2007.

In recognition of his sterling personal qualities and depth of experience, he has been privileged to serve as consultant for many reputable institutions including the World Bank, African Development Bank, WAIFEM, Pricewaterhouse Cooper, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, EU-UNICEF and Cross River State Government. His work in consulting reflects his in-depth knowledge and commitment to advancing economic policy and practice.

As a former economics lecturer, Udoh inspired students and young economists. He was known for his ability to simplify complex econometric theories and create a positive learning environment. His passion for education and mentoring shaped many budding economists’ careers. Later, as Head of WAIFEM’s Business Development Unit from 2012 to 2013, he successfully led initiatives to enhance the professional skills of financial institution staff within the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ).

As a senior management and executive staff member at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Udoh exemplifies professionalism, integrity, and commitment to CBN’s code of ethics. With a continuous focus on professional development, he has published over 40 scholarly articles and several book chapters on diverse economic topics.

Udoh is a member of Nigerian Economic Society and Nigerian Statistical Association (now Chartered Institute of Statistician of Nigeria, CiSON).  He is married with five lovely children.
