Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund paid a courtesy visit to the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA)
On 26 June 2018, Director General Mr. Momodou Bamba Saho welcomed Dr. Maxwell M. Mkwezalamba, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, for a courtesy visit to the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Dr. Mkwezalamba represents the Africa Group 1 Constituency, a grouping of 23 sub-Saharan African countries, on the IMF Executive Board.
Dr. Mkwezalamba has had an extensive career in economics and finance, having been Commissioner for Economic Affairs at the African Union Commission and Minister of Finance of Malawi.
The visit afforded Dr. Mkwezalamba and Mr. Saho the opportunity to share experiences on African economic integration issues and to discuss the challenges of implementation of the ECOWAS Monetary Cooperation Programme which aims to establish a monetary union for the region.
Dr. Mkwezalamba was accompanied by Mr. Bernard Jappah, Adviser to the Executive Director and Mrs. Kumba Conateh, Administrative Assistant. Mr. Sigismund C. Mbbah-Offor, Chief Accountant of WAMA, was also present for the meeting.
