On 24 January 2025, Mr. Boima S. Kamara, newly appointed Director General of the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), visited the ECOWAS Commission, reinforcing his aim to strengthen collaboration with Member Central Banks across the ECOWAS region. He was warmly received by Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandje Toure-Liste, who congratulated him on his appointment and applauded his efforts to enhance synergy between WAMA and the ECOWAS Commission. She emphasized the significance of robust cooperation to advance regional economic growth, monetary integration, and sustainable development throughout West Africa.

Commissioner Toure-Liste and DG Kamara affirmed their fullest support for a united approach in strengthening collaboration between their respective regional institutions, calling for a strategic partnership, synergy, and defined responsibilities in hosting statutory meetings, conducting joint multilateral surveillance missions, and compiling data for evidence-based policymaking. To transform intentions into tangible actions, a high-level meeting is being planned between Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, and Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Chairman of the Committee of Governors of ECOWAS Central Banks, which funds and supervises WAMA, to delineate technical-level roles. They urged all stakeholders to uphold genuine cooperation for sustained progress. The meeting concluded with an optimistic outlook for delivering a more integrated sub-region, where prosperity and peace flourish for all citizens of the ECOWAS bloc, reflecting the collective aspiration to advance the region’s economic development and foster inclusive growth.
