The West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) is an autonomous and specialised body of ECOWAS. It was established in 1993, and started operations in 1996, as result of the transformation of the West African Clearing House (WACH). The Agency is charged with the responsibility for monitoring, coordinating, and implementing the ECOWAS Single Monetary Cooperation Programme (EMCP), geared towards the creation of the ECOWAS single currency. WAMA is seeking applications from experienced individuals for the position of Senior Legal Officer.

| Department General objective | Legal Unit under Directorate The Senior Legal Officer (P3) will assist the Legal Counsel in the discharge of his or her service to the Director-General with respect to .Legal Matters of the ECOWAS Monetary Cooperation Program. |
| Key Responsibilities | The key responsibilities of the Senior Legal Officer are summarized as follows: • conduct comprehensive legal analysis and research on legal challenges facing WAMA; • harmonize Legal Frameworks with respect to the activities of the new Roadmap for the launch of the ECOWAS Single currency; • liaise with External Attorneys with respect to litigation involving WAMA; • draft, review and negotiate contracts; and • carry out other tasks and duties that may be assigned by the Director-General or the Chief Legal Officer. |
| Qualifications | The candidate must hold at least Master’s degree in Law from a recognized University. He/She must be: A national of an ECOWAS Member State. A holder of a professional qualification in Law and master’s degree in law specializing in Economic integration, Finance, Business or Commerce with a minimum professional experience of 6 years for P3 grade. A holder Master’s degree in Law with specialization in Economic integration, Finance, Business or Commerce will be preferrable with a minimum of professional experience of 3 years for P3 grade. Furthermore, the candidate must be fluent in French and have a in-depth knowledge of the Francophone legal environment and drafting of legal texts. |

| Personality Requirements | Loyalty, dedication and selflessness in the discharge of his/her duties to WAMA. The candidate is expected to produce high quality work under pressure with little to no supervision and demonstrate the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a multi-cultural environment and to build effective working relations with colleagues. |
